Pendant pose, also known as Dangling Earring or Lolasana, is a challenging arm balance pose that requires upper body strength and flexibility. This pose is an intermediate level pose and is a variation of the more well-known pose, Crow Pose (Bakasana). The name "Dangling Earring" comes from the appearance of the arms and hands as they hang down from the armpits, resembling a pair of earrings. This pose is also said to resemble a bird perched on a branch. It is a great pose for those looking to build upper body strength and improve their balance.
Benefits of Dangling Earring
Strengthens the arms, shoulders, and wrists Improves balance and stability Stretches the upper back and shoulders Helps to build focus and concentration
How to Enter Dangling Earring
Begin in a low crouched position with your hands placed on the floor in front of you and your knees on the ground. Bring your hands slightly forward of your shoulders, fingers spread wide and pressing firmly into the floor. Shift your weight forward so that your knees lift off the ground and your toes tuck under. As you lean forward, bring your elbows in towards the inside of your knees, and engage your core to lift your feet off the ground. Keep your gaze forward and your body balanced between your hands and feet.
How to Exit Dangling Earring
Carefully lower your feet back to the ground and release your hands from the floor. Take a moment to rest in Child's Pose before moving on to your next pose.
Common Dangling Earring Modifications & Variations
If you are finding it difficult to balance in this pose, try placing a block or cushion under your head for support. You can also try placing a blanket under your knees for added cushioning. To make the pose more challenging, try lifting one leg off the ground and holding it in the air as you balance on the other leg.
Common Mistakes with Dangling Earring
Rushing into the pose without proper warm-up and preparation can lead to injury. Not engaging the core properly can make it difficult to balance. Placing the hands too far forward or too far back can make it difficult to maintain balance.
